How are members elected to the Rajya Sabha from Union Territories?

Modified on Tue, 15 Apr at 7:35 AM

For Union Territories that are allotted seats, Parliament prescribes the method of election by law. According to Section 27A of the Representation of the People Act, 1950, there is an electoral college for each Union Territory:

  • In Delhi, it consists of the elected members of the Delhi Legislative Assembly.
  • In Puducherry, it comprises the elected members of the Puducherry Legislative Assembly.

Some Union Territories (like Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Chandigarh, etc.) do not have any Rajya Sabha representation.
