How are members of the Rajya Sabha elected from the States?

The elected members of the State Legislative Assemblies elect representatives to the Rajya Sabha using the system of proportional representation by means of the single transferable vote. Each State is allocated a certain number of seats in the Rajya Sabha as per the Fourth Schedule of the Constitution.
