The composition of the Rajya Sabha is outlined in Article 80 of the Constitution of India. The maximum strength of the Rajya Sabha is 250 members, comprising:


  1. 238 elected representatives from the States and Union Territories.

  2. 12 nominated members appointed by the President for their expertise in fields such as literature, science, art, and social service.

Currently, the actual strength is 245 members — 233 elected and 12 nominated.
