Can the family of a deceased Officer of Parliament stay in the official residence after the officer's death?

Modified on Tue, 8 Apr at 4:32 AM

Yes, under the 1974 Rules, if the family of a deceased Officer of Parliament (i.e., the Chairman or Deputy Chairman of the Rajya Sabha or the Speaker or Deputy Speaker of the Lok Sabha) continues to occupy the official residence after the officer's death, they must pay rent. The rent is charged either:

  • As per Fundamental Rule 45-A, or
  • If rent is pooled, as per the pooled standard rent under the same rule.
