Are any officeholders excluded from receiving the telephone and secretarial facilities under the Parliament (Facilities)Act, 1998?

Yes. The following categories of Members of Parliament are not eligible for these facilities under the Parliament (Facilities) Act, 1998 -

  • Ministers, as defined in the Salaries and Allowances of Ministers Act, 1952.
  • Leaders of the Opposition, as defined in the Salaries and Allowances of Leaders of Opposition in Parliament Act, 1977.
  • Members who already receive similar facilities due to their role in a Parliamentary Committee or any Government-established Board, Commission, Council, or Body.
  • Individuals who receive equivalent telephone and secretarial facilities from the Government, a local authority, or a government-owned corporation in any other capacity.
